instructor Portal

So, you’ve become an instructor. What now?
Do you have insurance? Is your contract industry standard? Is a non-compete normal?
How do I know if I’m spotting correctly? Why aren’t students getting into the tricks I’m teaching?

Becoming an instructor in an unregulated industry opens an array of concerns that we are not always prepared for. The Instructor Portal was created as a guide to assist instructors on their path to becoming the best they can be. With over 15 years of industry experience, our team has compiled information you may need for teaching. We cover documentation like contracts, non-competes, agreements and compensation. We review spotting, cueing, tips & tricks, information for heels based classes, curriculum building and running a showcase.

The Instructor Portal does not provide a certification but offers an understanding of what to expect. Certifications, clinics and retreats are a great way to jump start your journey as an instructor but continual education can be a huge asset as you grow and expand. We’re here to help with everything else that may not have been covered in a certification.

  • insurance options

Spotting & Cueing

Although there are many different ways to spot tricks and combos, we are often taught what we see online which is sometimes not the safest for our students or ourselves. This section of video content discusses how to safely warm up your body for spotting, various ways to use your body to spot different bodies and how to keep everyone safe.

  • level progressions

  • spotting various body sizes & skill levels

  • tips & tricks for spotting

Curriculum & Showcases

Building curriculum is something that is rarely reviewed in certification courses. We will not only discuss options for your lessons but also how to keep your body safe when teaching multiple classes per week. Instructors are often tasked with running or helping out with student showcases and we have created a section specifically for how to ensure this goes smoothly even if you’ve never run a showcase before.

  • “Jolene has a deep understanding of movement and musculature which she uses in conditioning, cues, and different approaches to moves and shapes. By attending her classes consistently, I have gained strength and body awareness, as well as confidence in my pole journey! Jolene knows when to troubleshoot and when to push me out of my comfort zone. I would recommend her as a challenging yet safety conscious instructor. “

  • “I have been taking classes with Jolene for years both in studio and virtually (thanks to Covid). I have also been in Jolene’s classes at varying levels from intro to pole through to level 3 pole. Her classes and combos are always challenging and she is happy to modify to make it easier or add more difficult transitions depending on the needs of her students.

Jolene clearly has extensive experience and knowledge about pole and performing. In my experience, she has always been willing to help me achieve a goal whether it is to learn a new move or assist in choreographing a performance piece. I would recommend Jolene as an instructor to anyone at any level.“

  • “Jolene is an incredibly talented and knowledgeable pole instructor that I have been learning from for 2 years. Not only can she show you new tricks to try, but she can also explain the muscle engagement and placement necessary to safely perform these moves. She is encouraging, and always reminds classes that each body moves/works differently. Jolene physically steps in when asked/needed, but allows for you to explore tricks out on your own and answer any questions along the way. She creates an environment in class that is welcoming to EVERYONE, no matter their background, and celebrates her students often.”
